F-5 Permanent Residency Reissue Guide

1. Mandatory Renewal (Reissue) Every 10 Years
Due to the legal amendment on September 21, 2018, permanent residency holders must renew their permanent residency card every 10 years. Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to 2 million won, so please check the timing carefully.
Reissue Application Period
You must apply within 2 years from the date 10 years have passed since the issuance date of your permanent residency card.
(You may apply even before 10 years if you wish.)
2. Reissue for Loss, Damage, or Information Changes
This applies if you have lost your permanent residency card or if personal information such as name or date of birth has changed.
Reissue Application Period
You must apply within 15 days from the date of the reason (e.g., confirmation of loss).
Application Method
Visit the Immigration and Foreigners Office in charge of your place of residence to apply.
3. Common Required Documents and Fees
These are the documents commonly required for reissue applications.
Required Documents
Integrated application form, original and copy of passport, current permanent residency card (excluded if lost), photo 1 passport-sized color photo (3.5cm x 4.5cm, taken within the last 6 months), additional documents Proof of residence (lease agreement, etc.), proof documents if personal information has changed, fee 30,000 won (cash or revenue stamp)

Notes
When staying abroad, permanent residency holders must re-enter Korea within 2 years after departure to maintain their permanent residency status. If your renewal period is approaching, you must enter Korea and complete the reissue procedures.
