What is the Ministry of Justice Immigration Support Center's Residential Facility (Dormitory)?

The dormitory at the Ministry of Justice Immigration Support Center located on Yeongjongdo Island in Incheon (hereinafter referred to as the 'dormitory') is a facility where refugees facing significant financial difficulties can stay. Entry is permitted after review of financial capacity and actual living conditions, with approval from the Minister of Justice. You can reside there for 6 months, and in addition to living spaces, it provides education such as Korean language classes and Korean society adaptation training to help you adapt well to Korean society even after leaving the dormitory after 6 months!

What are the eligibility criteria for entering the dormitory?

It targets asylum seekers, recognized refugees, resettlement refugees, and humanitarian stay permit holders who need housing support. Therefore, generally, anyone who has applied for refugee status can apply! Those caring for infants or toddlers, pregnant individuals, or people with disabilities who particularly need humanitarian support are prioritized for entry. However, since it is a shared living facility, entry may be restricted for those with potential infectious diseases.

How do you apply?

1. Visit the Immigration Office or Branch Office

The overall procedure will be explained in detail at the nearest Immigration Office or Branch Office, so we recommend visiting first to receive personalized assistance. During individual counseling, they will guide you to undergo a health checkup to assess your health status or open a bank account for receiving livelihood support funds.

2. Prepare required documents and visit the Immigration Support Center

Prepare documents such as health checkup results according to the guidance from the Immigration Office or Branch Office and visit the Immigration Support Center in Incheon. Necessary documents like the entry application form will be provided at the center, so complete the application by filling them out upon visit!

3. Notification of Selection Results

After application, wait for the review, and if selected as an entrant, proceed with entry.

What is the housing cost support?

It is a policy that provides deposit and monthly rent support when leaving the dormitory after 6 months of residence. Currently, it targets only resettlement refugees, not all refugees.

The deposit support lends the rental deposit (up to 20 million KRW) needed when finding a house after leaving, for 2 years, which must be returned to the government after 2 years. In contrast, monthly rent support provides up to 800,000 KRW per month for 1 year, and unlike the deposit that must be repaid, the monthly rent does not need to be returned!
