Dual nationals refer to individuals who automatically acquire South Korean nationality through their father or mother's nationality under the provisions of our Nationality Act, which is based on the principle of paternal lineage, and who also acquire the nationality of another country based on the nationality laws of that country, which follow the principles of birthplace or paternal lineage. The specific subjects are as follows.
1. A person whose father or mother is a South Korean national (including cases where the parent died before birth) who was born in a birthplace-based country and thereby acquired that country's nationality
2. A person born to a South Korean national father and a foreign mother, or a foreign father and a South Korean national mother, who also acquires the nationality of the foreign parent's home country under that country's laws
3. A person who acquires South Korean nationality through acknowledgment, naturalization, derivative acquisition, nationality restoration, or transitional provisions related to the adoption of paternal lineage principles for both parents
4. A South Korean national who voluntarily acquires foreign nationality and, within 6 months from the date of acquisition, declares to the Minister of Justice their intention to retain South Korean nationality
