What is the Minimum Livelihood Cost?

The minimum cost required for citizens to maintain a healthy and cultural life. The minimum livelihood cost must be determined and announced by the Minister of Health and Welfare, considering the income and expenditure levels of the general public, the living conditions of benefit recipients, price levels, etc., after deliberation and resolution by the 'Central Livelihood Security Committee' by December 1 each year. The Minister of Health and Welfare conducts necessary measurement surveys every five years to determine the minimum livelihood cost. The 'Central Livelihood Security Committee' is an organization that deliberates and decides on important matters related to the implementation of the basic livelihood security system, chaired by the Minister of Welfare, and composed of a total of 10 members, including vice ministers from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Office for Government Policy Coordination, as well as public interest members who are related experts.
