In a broad sense, it refers to compensating for damages caused by disasters, but generally, it refers to the system that compensates workers for damages resulting from work-related accidents. Work-related accidents refer to a worker's injury, illness, physical disability, or death due to work-related causes. The development of modern industry led to frequent accidents in workplaces due to the adoption of dangerous machinery and equipment and the intensification of work intensity. Therefore, regarding the losses suffered by workers due to work-related accidents, even if the employer is not at fault, the employer's strict liability—obligating compensation within a certain scope—was recognized by legislation. The Labor Standards Act provides regulations on workers' compensation in Chapter 8. Workers' compensation includes six types: medical care benefits, rest benefits, disability benefits, survivors' benefits, funeral expenses, and lump-sum benefits, each with prescribed eligibility requirements and standards for payment amounts. Additionally, there is the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance system, which resolves workers' compensation through insurance.
