In cases where an injury occurs or a disease is contracted due to work-related reasons requiring 4 or more days of medical care, to receive workers' compensation, prior to claiming medical expenses or rest allowance, etc., a 'Medical Care Application Form' must be submitted to the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service (hereinafter 'the Service') to make a 'Medical Care Application'. Approvals and cancellations related to medical care applications, and payment processing for medical expenses incurred before the initial medical care approval are handled by the branch manager overseeing the injured worker's workplace, so the initial medical care application form must be submitted to the branch of the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service responsible for the workplace location. For example, if the workplace is located in Sinsu-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, it must be submitted to the Seoul Northern Branch of the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service overseeing Dongdaemun-gu; in the case of a construction site, it must be submitted to the branch corresponding to the construction site location. The Service that receives the medical care application comprehensively verifies for the first time whether it qualifies for medical care benefits, including workers' compensation insurance registration status, whether the worker belongs to the relevant workplace, occurrence of work-related accident, whether the medical institution is designated for workers' compensation, etc. Among the details on the medical care application form, there is a section where the employer confirms, signs, and stamps the form filled out by the injured worker, but if the employer does not cooperate, it is acceptable to submit it blank. Through confirmation of the medical care application form, unless there are special reasons, the Service will consult with a consulting physician within 7 days from the date of receipt of the application form and decide and notify the applicant on whether medical care is approved. Even if medical care was received during the approved period, if medically there is a need to postpone hospitalization or outpatient treatment, etc., the injured worker must obtain a diagnosis from the attending physician and apply for postponement of medical care to the relevant branch of the Service overseeing the . Additionally, if an injured worker wishes to transfer to another medical institution during medical care for reasons such as visiting relatives or surgery, they must apply to the Service in advance and can transfer only after receiving transfer approval; transferable cases are: △when the current medical institution is not the living base, causing difficulties in family nursing or outpatient treatment; △changing to a medical institution necessary for appropriate medical care considering the disease condition. During medical care, if a new disease related to the initial work accident is discovered or some diseases in complex conditions due to a major accident are omitted, additional disease application is possible.
