It means that equal wages must be paid for equal work without gender discrimination. In the past, there were cases where wages were lower simply because one was a woman, even for quantitatively and qualitatively equal work, but today such practices are not allowed.
Discriminating in wages against a worker simply because she is a woman, because she has short years of service, because she has few dependents, or because female workers in that workplace are generally considered to have lower intelligence is illegal. Likewise, differentiating by having monthly salaries for men and daily wages for women is also illegal. The International Labour Organization (ILO) upholds the principle of equal remuneration for work of equal value in the preamble to its Constitution, and at its 34th General Conference in 1951, the "Convention concerning Equal Remuneration for Men and Women Workers for Work of Equal Value" was adopted. This issue is important internationally as well.
