A dormitory refers to a lodging provided by an employer to a large number of employees they have hired so that they can live together.
In our country, it has been a common practice to recruit workers from rural areas and accommodate them in dormitories. However, employers interfered with workers' privacy due to the feudal dormitory life, the dormitory facilities were incomplete and unsuitable for collective living, and there was also a concern that it could lead to moral corruption. To eliminate these harms, the Labor Standards Act provides detailed regulations on the guarantee of dormitory life, the creation and amendment of dormitory rules, facilities, and safety and hygiene, etc. (Chapter 10 of the same Act).
