What is a Labor Inspector?

It refers to judicial police officers assigned to the Ministry of Employment and Labor and its affiliated organizations to ensure compliance with labor standards under labor relations laws. Labor inspectors have the authority to inspect workplaces, dormitories, and their attached buildings, examine account books and documents, interrogate relevant persons, and measure and collect hazardous substances. In addition, for crimes violating labor relations laws, they may perform the duties of judicial police officers as prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Act. Labor inspectors must keep secrets learned in the course of their duties confidential, and if they intentionally overlook violations, they shall be punished with imprisonment for not more than three years or disqualification for not more than five years.
