A work system in which a worker's working hours change to different schedules at regular fixed intervals. This system is used in cases where production is continuously operated without resting general production facilities. To uphold the principle of 8-hour workdays, a 4-shift 3-team system must be adopted. When performing shift work, premium wages must be paid for night work and holiday work. On the other hand, the general view is that the shift work system cannot allow late-night operations under it up to cases justified by corporate profitability unless due to the special nature of the company's production process or the public nature of the business, as it has physiological, human, and cultural adverse effects on workers.
