There is a system at hospitals affiliated with the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service that allows treatment and rehabilitation for work-related industrial accident patients during the waiting period for special examination after applying for industrial accident insurance, even before approval.
■ Eligible Persons for Pre-Approval Treatment
Among applicants for special examination of work-relatedness, cases where the hospital doctor for special examination determines that the disease condition is critical or symptoms are progressively worsening, potentially leading to difficulties in future recovery
■ Pre-Approval Treatment Process
- (Doctor's Judgment) When a specialist in occupational and environmental medicine or a clinical specialist (orthopedics, neurosurgery, rehabilitation medicine) determines the applicability of pre-approval treatment during the special examination stage
- (Treatment Details) All treatments and examinations, including surgery, procedures, and physical therapy, are provided at hospitals affiliated with the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service in accordance with industrial accident insurance
※ The pre-approval treatment period involves inpatient or outpatient treatment for 2 to 8 weeks depending on the patient's condition
- (Approved Treatment) Even after industrial accident insurance approval, the patient is transferred to a hospital affiliated with the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service for continued treatment, with specialized rehabilitation treatment programs and occupational return treatment programs provided
■ Diseases Eligible for Pre-Approval Treatment
- Patients with musculoskeletal disorders among applicants who require treatment for conditions in the shoulder, spine (cervical, lumbar), knee, thigh, ankle, elbow, or wrist areas
※ Applied disease names: Knee joint (degenerative arthritis), cervical/lumbar spine (intervertebral disc herniation), ankle joint (synovitis), shoulder joint (rotator cuff tear/impingement syndrome), thigh (articular cartilage lesion), elbow joint (lateral epicondylitis), carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.
■ Pre-Approval Treatment Period
- During the work-relatedness special examination period
Regardless of whether the work-related injury is approved or not, treatment costs at hospitals affiliated with the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service are provided free of charge in accordance with industrial accident insurance
■ Hospitals affiliated with the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service provide services to minimize out-of-pocket medical expenses for patients receiving treatment due to industrial accidents.
