 To apply for simplified naturalization,

① Continuously resided in Korea for 2 years or more while married to a Korean spouse, or ② After 3 years of marriage, continuously resided in Korea for 1 year or more must meet these basic requirements. If these requirements are confirmed, prepare the following documents.

1. Documents to be prepared by the foreign applicant themselves

  • Naturalization Permission Application Form: Attach 1 color photo for passport (3.5cm x 4.5cm)

  • ID: Original and copy of passport, original and copy of Alien Registration Card

  • Home Country Criminal Record Certificate: Document within 6 months from issuance date, must have Apostille certification or confirmation from the Korean consulate in the host country. (However, exempt if legally resided in Korea for 10 years or more, or if already submitted during previous stay permit and overseas departure period is 6 months or less, etc.)

  • Home Country Family Relationship Proof Documents: Household registry, marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc. from home country (Korean translation and notarization required)

  • Foreigner's Occupation and Annual Income Report

  • Korean Language Ability and Understanding of Korean Customs Proof Documents: KIIP Level 5 completion certificate, comprehensive evaluation pass certificate, etc. (Mandatory unless exempt)

  • Fee: Government revenue stamp 300,000 KRW

2. Documents to be prepared by the Korean spouse (issued within 3 months)

All certificates must be issued as 'Detailed (Detailed Certificate)' to fully disclose the resident registration number.

  • Basic Certificate (Detailed), Family Relationship Certificate (Detailed), Marriage Relationship Certificate (Detailed), Resident Registration Abstract, Copy of Korean spouse's ID (Resident Registration Card, etc.)

3. Proof of Ability to Maintain Livelihood (Most important review criterion)

Must prove assets or income of 30 million KRW or more in the name of the applicant or cohabiting family (Korean spouse, etc.). (Choose one or more from below)

  • 30 million KRW or more deposit balance certificate

  • 30 million KRW or more deposit listed in real estate lease contract copy or real estate registry copy (if owned)

  • Certificate of Employment and Previous Year's Income Amount Certificate (issued by tax office)

  • Other documents proving continuous income, such as employment confirmation, etc.

4. Proof of Marriage Authenticity and Other Supplementary Documents

  • If there are children: Family Relationship Certificate (Detailed) in child's name

  • Proof of Cohabitation and Marriage Maintenance: Family photos, couple's messenger chat history, guarantor statements from acquaintances, etc. (Not mandatory, but very advantageous to prepare in advance to avoid suspicions of sham marriage during immigration review and prove marriage authenticity.)
