Dual citizenship refers to a person who automatically acquires South Korean citizenship through their father or mother's nationality, in accordance with our Nationality Act which follows the principle of paternal lineage, and also acquires the citizenship of another country that follows the principle of birthplace or paternal lineage. The specific targets are as follows.
1. A person whose father or mother is a South Korean national (including cases where they died before birth) who was born in a birthplace principle country and thereby acquired that country's citizenship
2. A person born to a South Korean national father and foreign mother, or foreign father and South Korean national mother, who thereby acquired that foreign nationality under the home country's law of the foreign parent
3. A person who acquired South Korean citizenship through recognition, naturalization, derivative acquisition, nationality restoration, or transitional provisions adopting parental paternal lineage principle
4. A South Korean national who voluntarily acquired foreign citizenship and reported their intent to retain South Korean citizenship to the Minister of Justice within 6 months from the date of acquisition
